Accreditation This institution, having been examined educationally, ethically, and spiritually, has been granted non-secular Christian accreditation by the: American Accrediting Association of Theological Institutions P.O. Box 8939, Rocky Mount, NC 27804-6939 (252) 451-0024 Notes on Accreditation There is a continuing controversy over the issue of accreditation. Some religious educational institutions place great emphasis on accreditation and some religious educational institutions choose not to pursue accreditation at all. This is not to say that those who do not seek accreditation offer below standard programs. Rather, this recognizes that under the Constitution of United States, the 1st Amendment precludes the government from “making any laws respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Likewise, Article I, Section 7 of the Ohio Constitution, says, “…it shall be the duty of the General Assembly to pass suitable laws, to protect every religious denomination in the peaceable enjoyment of its own mode of public worship, and to encourage schools, and the means of instruction.” From this point of view, we believe that accreditation is not necessary in order for any legitimate religious educational institution to deliver an excellent educational program. Even though we believe accreditation is not necessary for legitimate religious educational opportunities, accreditation IS important to OUR students. Because IT IS important to OUR students, IT IS important to US. Akribos Theological Seminary is committed to pursuing higher levels of accreditation. It should be understood that in order to pursue higher levels of accreditation, there must also be qualifying levels of student enrollment, properly credentialed faculty, suitable facilities, and other basic and necessary resources. While we have completed our initial non-secular Christian accreditation, we are committed to pursue even greater levels of accreditation. Authority to Operate Akribos currently operates under sections of Division (E) of §1713.02 of the Ohio Revise Code. Religious educational institutions controlled, operated, and maintained by a bona fide religious denomination or lawfully operating religious organization are not required to apply for a Certificate of Authorization from the board of regents or the state of Ohio. Therefore, it is a given that this institution is not certified by the board of regents or the state of Ohio. However, all programs are developed in accordance with the applicable portions of Rule 3333-1-08, Standards for Issuance of Certificates of Authorization, under §1713.03 of the Ohio Revised Code.
